Citation generator

Enter the details of your source and get the reference in every citation style your faculty is likely to prescribe.

The generator formats references for books, journal articles and web pages in APA (7th edition), Harvard (Cite Them Right, 13th edition), Chicago (18th edition, both the notes and the author-date system), MLA (9th edition), Vancouver, IEEE and OSCOLA (5th edition). With every reference you also get an example of the in-text citation or footnote. The tool is free, and whatever you enter is neither stored nor sent anywhere.

Enter each author on a new line as Surname, First name. If the author is an organisation (for example the Croatian Bureau of Statistics), enter only its name, with no comma.

Copy the title exactly as it appears in the source. Separate a subtitle with a colon.

The other styles (APA, Harvard, Chicago, MLA, OSCOLA) no longer give the place of publication.

Used in references to online sources (Harvard, Vancouver, IEEE, OSCOLA, and in Chicago and MLA only when the page carries no publication date).

Used in the in-text citation example and in the footnote.

Worth knowing The citation style is always set by your faculty guidelines or your supervisor. For more on the styles and on how to avoid plagiarism, read the article Citation and avoiding plagiarism.
